BCCI hold meeting for Six hours with Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir - Stern questions asked to India coach revealed!

By MyKhel Staff

Following India's unexpected 0-3 loss to New Zealand in the recent Test series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) convened a thorough review session to dissect the reasons behind the defeat.

India captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar met BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Roger Binny, with head coach Gambhir joining remotely. The meeting reportedly went on for six hours.

Gautam Gambhir gets Questions Asked

The meeting aimed to scrutinize the team's strategic choices, including the pitch selection for the Mumbai Test, resting key bowler Jasprit Bumrah, and adapting to Gambhir's unique coaching approach, which has stark difference from his predecessor Rahul Dravid.

"Bumrah's absence was discussed although it was a precautionary move. Opting for a rank turner despite India not faring well on these tracks are some of the issues that came up for discussion," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI on conditions of anomymity.

The review also touched upon Gambhir's coaching methodology, contrasting significantly with that of Rahul Dravid, and the adjustment process for the team. It remains unclear if Gambhir's style was directly questioned, but there seems to be a disconnect within the team's think tank regarding his approach.

The decision to play on rank turner was also a very baffling move from the India team management. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli haven't been the best in the turning pitches, and still Gambhir's decision to play on the Mumbai turner was a bold move.

Harshit, Nitish selection questioned

Moreover, the selections of T20 specialist Nitish Reddy and newcomer Harshit Rana, who has only played 10 Ranji Trophy matches for the Australia Test series also got raised, as many in the team management differ from it.

Gambhir took the helm of Indian cricket following the T20 World Cup triumph. Under him, India lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka and the latest mishap against the Kiwis have asked larger questions on his methods and credibility. Gambhir's solo success stint was with KKR in the IPL 2024, when he mentored the Knight Riders with an IPL win for the first time in a decade.

The Indian team is scheduled to depart for Australia in two groups on November 10 and 11 for the five-match Test series. India, who currently placed second in the WTC table, need a mammoth series victory in order to qualify for the WTC final next year.
