BCCI Invites Applications for Head Coach of Indian Cricket Team As Rahul Dravid's Tenure Ends After T20 World Cup 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has on Monday (May 13) invited applications for the position of the new Head Coach of the Senior Men's Team.

With the tenure of current head coach Rahul Dravid ending after the T20 World Cup 2024, the BCCI is on the lookout for a dynamic individual to lead Team India into its next chapter of success.

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications by 6 PM IST on May 27, 2024. While Dravid has the option to re-apply for the position for a second term, the selection process will be rigorous, encompassing a comprehensive review of applications, personal interviews, and assessments of shortlisted candidates.

Key Accountabilities For India Head Coach

The successful candidate will have the paramount responsibility of developing a world-class Indian cricket team capable of achieving sustained success across all conditions and formats. He will serve as an inspirational leader, motivating both current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their innovative approach to the game.

What Will Be The Tenure of Team India's New Coach?

As Head Coach, he will oversee the performance and management of the India Men's team in all three formats of the game, leading a team of specialist coaches and support staff. The tenure of Rahul Dravid's successor will be from 1st July 2024 to 31st December 2027. The ICC will host the Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup, WTC Final and ODI World Cup during this period.

Additionally, they will be tasked with upholding disciplinary standards within the team and meeting the high-pressure demands associated with handling marquee athletes.

India Head Coach Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Candidates must meet specific criteria to be considered for the role, including having played a minimum of 30 Test Matches or 50 ODIs or having served as the Head Coach of a full-member Test Playing Nation for a minimum of 2 years.

Alternatively, candidates with experience as the Head Coach of an Associate member/IPL Team or equivalent international league/First Class Teams/National A teams for a minimum period of 3 years may also apply. Additionally, candidates should possess BCCI Level 3 Certification or its equivalent and be below 60 years of age.

Effective communication and man-management skills are essential, as the Head Coach will be responsible for managing a highly skilled and self-reliant team in an elite performance environment. They must also demonstrate the ability to identify and integrate new talent into the team while fostering a culture of growth and support.

Furthermore, organizational and tactical strengths are crucial, as the Head Coach will be tasked with setting and executing short-, medium-, and long-term plans for the team's development. He must effectively manage playing and coaching resources to maximise performance across all formats of the game.
