BCCI Names India Test Squad for Sri Lanka Series; Bumrah, Jadeja Return, Washington Sundar Misses Out

The BCCI has announced India's squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, with Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja returning to the fold, while uncapped all-rounder Saransh Jain has earned his maiden Test call-up.

Shubman Gill will continue to captain the side, with KL Rahul named vice-captain for the series, which begins in Galle on August 15.

Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan await fitness clearance

India have included pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the squad, but his participation remains subject to clearance from the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Sai Sudharsan has also been named in the squad but will require fitness clearance before taking the field.

Both players are expected to undergo final assessments ahead of the opening Test.

Washington Sundar ruled out of first Test

India have suffered one injury setback, with spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar unavailable for the first Test after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Saransh Jain has been drafted into the squad as his replacement after impressing during India A's recent tour of Sri Lanka.

The off-spinning all-rounder had strengthened his case with an unbeaten 70 and six wickets in the second unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A.

Jadeja returns as India bolster spin attack

Ravindra Jadeja returns after recovering from the injury that kept him out since the IPL, adding valuable experience to India's spin department.

He joins Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar in what is expected to be a spin-heavy attack for the Sri Lankan conditions.

Gurnoor Brar retains place

Fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has retained his place in the squad after an impressive showing for India A against Sri Lanka A.

Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna complete the pace attack alongside Bumrah, subject to the latter's fitness.

Devdutt Padikkal also keeps his place, while Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel have been selected as the two wicketkeepers.

*Subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

India vs Sri Lanka Test series schedule

The first Test will be played in Galle from August 15, while the second Test will begin on August 23 at the SSC in Colombo.

India head into the series fifth in the World Test Championship standings and will be looking to begin their Sri Lanka campaign on a positive note after their defeat to South Africa in their previous WTC assignment.
