Rishabh Pant brought the curtains down on IPL 2025 with a spectacular display of power-hitting, hammering an unbeaten 118 off just 61 deliveries against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
However, his fireworks with the bat came with a tinge of disappointment as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a crushing six-wicket defeat in their final league game and were later handed over-rate penalties.

Pant, leading LSG in a must-win match, delivered his best performance of the season - and arguably one of his finest in the IPL - smashing 11 boundaries and 8 towering sixes.
Walking in after the early dismissal of opener Matthew Breetzke, the southpaw partnered with Mitchell Marsh to completely dominate the RCB attack. Their whirlwind 152-run partnership off just 78 balls took LSG to a daunting 227/3 at the Ekana Stadium.
While the innings was a personal redemption for Pant - who had endured a lukewarm season with the bat - the script didn't quite unfold as he'd have liked. RCB, powered by half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Jitesh Sharma, hunted down the massive target in 18.4 overs, registering the third-highest successful chase in IPL history.
In doing so, they also became the first team ever to win all seven of their away games in a single IPL season.
Adding to the heartbreak, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) slapped Pant with a hefty ₹30 lakh fine for maintaining a slow over rate - LSG's third such offense this season. As per the IPL's Code of Conduct, repeated violations invite stricter penalties. While the first over-rate breach typically leads to a ₹12 lakh fine for the captain, a third offense triggers a heavier financial penalty.
The rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fee - whichever is lesser as per the BCCI's official statement on the matter.
Despite Pant's heroic knock, LSG ended their campaign without a playoff berth. The team paid the price for inconsistency earlier in the tournament, and even Pant's late resurgence couldn't salvage their qualification hopes.
RCB's victory lifted them to second on the table with 19 points, setting up a Qualifier 1 clash against table-toppers Punjab Kings on Thursday. Gujarat Titans, finishing third, will face off against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday. The winner of that match will meet the loser of Qualifier 1 for a shot at the final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
For Pant, IPL 2025 ended with a bittersweet mix - a sensational ton to silence critics and a costly fine that reflected the season's frustrations for LSG.
