BCCI rubbishes report of Gavaskar's sacking

By Staff
Chennai, Mar 26: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today dismissed reports in a section of the media that former India captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar was removed from the post of ICC Cricket Committee Chairman.

BCCI Secretary Niranjan R Shah, in a release circulated to reporters covering the first Test match between India and South Africa here, said media speculation about the removal of Gavaskar based on a report in a London newspaper was ''totally incorrect''. ICC had confirmed to the BCCI that no decision had been taken to remove Gavaskar, he said.ICC representatives might discuss with Gavaskar about some of his media articles and report to the Executive Board in its next meeting.

ICC had reportedly told Gavaskar that he had to choose between his role as a columnist and commentator and the ICC post.

Yesterday, during the BCCI Working Committee meeting here, Mr Shah and BCCI Tresurer N Srinivasan informed the media that they have not received any report that ICC had warned Gavaskar.
