BCCI set to introduce groundbreaking change in Domestic Cricket

BCCI has confirmed that they will introduce the Impact Player rule for the upcoming edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The apex body of Indian cricket introduced the Impact Player for the IPL 2023 edition, which was a huge hit. And now the domestic T20 tournament is set to avail the same rule for the 2023 season.

SMAT BCCI

The Impact Player rule was also prevalent last season in the SMAT as well, but it had associated complications with it. The teams were only allowed to introduce Impact Players only after the 14th over of the match.

But BCCI has confirmed teams will be allowed to field an impact player anytime during the match, as it was during the IPL 2023 season.

The SMAT is the curtain raiser of the domestic season and it is expected to start on October 16. The ICC World Cup 2023 is also going to be happening at the same time as it starts on October 5.

Hence BCCI will have to finalize SMAT's venue for the 2023 season amid the World Cup frenzy. Cities such as Nagpur, Mohali, Indore and Cochin can become important venues for the tournament this year.

BCCI also gave a green signal to India's participation in the Asian Games which starts in September in Hangzhou. A second-string India side will take part in the tournament as Shikhar Dhawan looks set to make a comeback and lead the Indian team in the tournament.
