Numbers of players which teams can retain, and the salary cap of the retained players will be among the agendas when the Indian Premier League (IPL) team owners will meet with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the end of this month.
A Cricbuzz report has revealed that the much-awaited meeting between the BCCI and IPL owners will take place on July 30 or July 31 at the BCCI office inside the Wankhede Stadium complex.

The top topic of discussion would be the number of retentions allowed for teams ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. A few franchises, who have been part of the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008, want as many as eight retentions.
They have an opinion that a few players are directly related to the branding of their teams, and losing players integral to the image of the franchise was an issue. For example, CSK would not want to not retain someone like Ravindra Jadeja or KKR would wish to retain all of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh, Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana.
Others who are lacking quality players in their side, want the BCCI to allow the least number of players to be retained. There is also a debate whether to have a Right to Match (RTM) option at the mega-auction.
Discussions over salary cap for team and retained players is also likely to be discussed. The salary cap for the team is expected to be around INR 120 crore in the first year of the next three-year cycle. Previously, the salary of the top retained player was Rs 15 crore - 15 to 16 percent of the permitted team salary cap of Rs 90 crore. If the same formula is followed, the salary of the top retained player by a team this time could be around Rs 20 crore.
