Bengaluru, January 25: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will meet IPL teams on Friday (January 26) to discuss the change in match timings which was approved by the IPL Governing Council.
The IPL match timings on double header days were 4 pm and 8 pm till 2017 but this time official broadcaster Star Sports has mooted the idea of rescheduling the matches to 5.30 pm and 7 pm to gain maximum viewership.
The IPL GC had approved the plan in principle on Monday.
But it has been learnt that the IPL teams and a section of the BCCI itself were not in favour of the change in match timings because of the overlapping.
"There is this issue of overlapping of matches. While the team sponsors need maximum exposure of their brand name imprinted on the team jersey, this clash of matches will thwart their designs. The investment too has been made accordingly. So, this requires deeper discussion and hopefully we can resolve this tomorrow," a team official told MyKhel.
Some BCCI officials also felt that overlapping matches will result in reduced match time and therefore decreasing income graph.
