India Women's Cricket Team Support Staff to get long-term contracts: BCCI

BCCI has come to a huge decision regarding the appointments of the Indian Women's cricket team support staff. The apex body of Indian cricket is set to abolish the ad-hoc basis of appointing coaches.

In a virtual meeting that took place on Sunday, BCCI has come to a decision of appointing the Women's team support staff on long-term contracts.

As per the BCCI constitution, the appointment of a head coach is done through the Cricket Advisory Board, while national selectors make the appointments of the support staff. But this regime was not being followed in the case of the Women's cricket team.

BCCI has been appointing coaches from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the batting, bowling and fielding coaches of India's women's team have been appointed on a temporary basis. But this practice will cease with immediate effect as BCCI aim to streamline the appointment process.

"All the coaches will be given long-term contracts and it will not be a temporary arrangement as we have seen in the past. This will give the team much-needed stability," a BCCI source told PTI as the decision was taken at the apex council body meeting.

Since the sacking of Ramesh Powar in December 2022, the Indian team are without a head coach and played the Women's T20 World Cup without anyone at the helm. But it looks like Harmanpreet Kaur and co. will soon get a new coach and the selection process for that appointment will be much more methodically sound and appropriate.
