BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has firmly dismissed rumors about a rift between Indian captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir. According to Shukla, there is no tension in the Indian dressing room, and certain media outlets are spreading misleading and false narratives.
These rumors about a strained relationship gained traction following India's underwhelming performance in Australia.

Reports suggested that there was visible tension between Rohit and Gambhir, particularly during a training session in Sydney before the fifth Test, where the two were allegedly seen sharing "cold vibes."
This was further fueled by the leak of a dressing room speech by Gambhir, made after India's loss in the Boxing Day Test. In his speech, Gambhir addressed the underperformance of some players, which was seen as stern and direct.
Despite these events, Rajeev Shukla strongly rejected the media reports, calling them "rubbish." He also voiced his support for Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling with form in recent months, especially following India's 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
"It's completely wrong statement, there is no rift between chairman of selection (Ajit Agarkar) and coach, there is no rift between captain and coach. This is all rubbish which is being spread in a section of media," Shukla said.
"This is also wrong that Rohit has insisted on captaincy. He is the captain. Form or lack of form is part and parcel of the game. These are phases, nothing new. When he saw he is out of form, he dropped himself from the fifth Test," he further added.
Shukla emphasized that the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 would be revealed on Sunday. The announcement had been postponed as the selectors were awaiting an update on the fitness of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who sustained a back injury during the Sydney Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
