Australia has named Beau Webster, an uncapped all-rounder from Tasmania, in their 14-member squad for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, set to begin on December 6 in Adelaide. Webster, 30, replaces Mitchell Marsh.
Marsh has been sidelined with soreness following the team's crushing 295-run defeat in the Perth Test. Known for his exceptional performances in domestic cricket, Webster has been a standout in the Sheffield Shield, where he was named Player of the Year last summer.

His remarkable consistency includes becoming only the second player in the competition's 132-year history-after West Indies legend Sir Garry Sobers-to achieve the rare feat of scoring over 900 runs and taking 30 wickets in a single season.
This summer, Webster has continued his stellar form, amassing 448 runs at an average of 56 and claiming 16 wickets. His recent performances in Tasmania's Sheffield Shield victory over New South Wales highlighted his versatility, with crucial scores of 61 and 49 and five wickets across the match.
Webster's rise has been fueled by his adaptability as an all-rounder. Initially known for his off-spin, he added seam bowling to his repertoire just four years ago, making him a valuable middle-order batter capable of delivering key overs.
His contributions were instrumental in Australia A's 2-0 series win against India A, where he registered unbeaten scores of 61 and 46, along with pivotal bowling performances. Australian captain Pat Cummins commented on Marsh's situation.
He stated, "He has been battling a couple of little niggles since the UK tour. The next 10 days will give him a chance to freshen up." If Marsh does not recover in time, Webster could earn his Test debut.
Thus, fulfilling a long-held ambition. Tasmanian skipper Jordan Silk praised Webster's match-winning ability, saying, "Anytime we're in trouble, I feel like I can throw him the ball or rely on his bat. He's a special player."
