Ben Stokes 16th England cricketer to play 100 Tests: How many from India, Pakistan, other nations have achieved feat

Ben Stokes on Thursday (February 15) became the 16th England cricketer and 76th overall to play hundred Test matches after taking the field against India in the third Test at the Niranjan Shah Stadium. Among active England cricketers, Ben Stokes is third on the list.

James Anderson (185) and Joe Root (138) are the only two other active England cricketers who have played more Test matches than Ben Stokes. All the three players are part of the England squad for the ongoing 5-Test series against India.

Thirteen players from India have played 100 or more Test matches. No player in the current India squad for the England Tests have achieved the feat. Virat Kohli, Ishan Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara are the only active India players to achieve the landmark. Ravichandran Ashwin will be added in the list if he plays the fourth and fifth Test against England.

Only five Pakistan players have played 100 Test matches. No active Pakistan cricketer has joined the elusive list. Javed Miandad leads the list for Pakistan with 124 Tests, and is followed by Inzamam-ul-Haq (119), Younis Khan (118), Wasim Akram (104) and Saleem Malik (103).

India won the toss and elected to bat first in the third Test match in Rajkot. Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel were handed their debut cap, while Ravindra Jadeja made his comeback from injury. Kuldeep Yadav was picked ahead of Axar Patel as the third spinner. Also, Mohammed Siraj, who was rested for the second Test, made his way back by replacing Mukesh Kumar.
