Ben Stokes Undergoes Facial Surgery After Nets Mishap, Eyes June Return
England Test captain Ben Stokes has undergone successful surgery after sustaining a facial injury during a training session, ruling him out of action for the time being.

The 34-year-old all-rounder confirmed the development on Instagram, staying true to his dry sense of humour. "May not look like it... But the surgery was a success," Stokes wrote, reassuring fans that the procedure had gone smoothly.
The injury occurred when Stokes was struck while standing on the side of the nets rather than actively batting or bowling. He had earlier shared the incident with followers, joking about the severity of the blow by remarking, "You should see the state of the ball."
The setback adds to a frustrating run for England's talisman. Stokes has not featured in competitive cricket since picking up an adductor injury during the fifth and final Ashes Test against Australia in Sydney last month. That issue had already sidelined him from England's white-ball plans, with his last limited-overs appearance coming at the 2023 World Cup. He was not part of England's squad for the ongoing T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Attention now turns to his potential comeback. Stokes is targeting England's home Test series against New Zealand in June as a possible return window. Before that, he could look to regain rhythm and match sharpness through appearances for Durham in the County Championship.
Despite the injury, Stokes remains involved behind the scenes. He is expected to join England Lions' coaching setup for their white-ball series against Pakistan Shaheens in Abu Dhabi later this month, working alongside Moeen Ali and Andrew Flintoff.
For England, the priority will be ensuring their captain is fully fit, not just patched up, ahead of a busy red-ball summer.
