England skipper Ben Stokes has surpassed their coach Brendon McCullum to become the leading six-hitter in Test cricket on Saturday (February 18).
The historic moment happened in the day-night Test match between New Zealand and England. Ben Stokes hit one short ball over fine-leg and cleared the fence in the bowling of Scott Kuggeleijn, and thus surpassed former Kiwi batter Brendon McCullum in the six-hitting chart, who incidentally is the current coach of the England team.
Stokes now has cleared the boundary 109 times in Test cricket. The English all-rounder has scored 5652 runs in the 90 Tests he has played, at an average of 36. He played an entertaining knock on the day, scoring 31 off just 33 balls, which had two sixes in it.
Brendon McCullum hit 107 sixes in his career in 101 Test matches. The former New Zealand batter has 6453 runs in the longer format, at an average of 38.5.
England have played a new brand of aggressive cricket in the Test format, known as BazBall, inspired by their coach Brendon McCullum. The English have got massive success with their approach and are currently in the driving seat against the Blackcaps in the first Test.
