In a rain-curtailed thriller at the iconic Eden Gardens, Sobisco Smashers Malda edged past Shrachi Rarh Tigers by a solitary run via the DLS method, registering a dramatic win in Season 2 of the Bengal Pro T20 League.

Opting to bat first, the Tigers posted a competitive 171/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Kazi Junaid Saifi led the charge with a fluent 51 off 36 deliveries, striking boundaries with finesse. He received solid support from Sayan Shekhar Mandal (33) and Gaurav Chauhan (28), as the Tigers built a strong platform. However, the Smashers' bowlers clawed back at crucial junctures - Ishan Porel's fiery spell of 3/23 dismantled the top order, while Akhil added pressure in the middle overs with a vital 3/29. Their combined efforts restricted the Tigers from pushing beyond the 180-mark.

In response, Sobisco Smashers Malda looked steady in their chase, reaching 126/4 in 15.3 overs before the skies opened up. With the rain refusing to ease, the DLS method came into play. The revised par score was 125, and with the Smashers just ahead, they were declared winners by a razor-thin margin.

Shuvam Dey (43) and Gitimoy Basu (42) were the architects of the chase, building a composed partnership under pressure. Their maturity at the crease proved decisive. For the Tigers, Saiket Das was the standout bowler, picking up two crucial wickets, but the weather ultimately played the final hand.

The result leaves the Smashers with renewed momentum as the league heads into a crucial phase.
