The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has announced a strong Bengal squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25, featuring experienced campaigners and some exciting talents.
Mohammed Shami, the seasoned India pacer, headlines the squad as he makes a return to limited-overs cricket after nearly a year. Shami recently played in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh, marking his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury. His inclusion will undoubtedly bolster Bengal’s pace attack.

Sudip Kumar Gharami will be leading the side in the SMAT trophy, replacing Anustup Majumder who captained them in the Ranji Trophy.
The Bengal squad also boasts several IPL regulars, including Shahbaz Ahmed, an all-rounder known for his consistent performances with both bat and ball, and Abishek Porel, a dynamic wicketkeeper-batter who has gained valuable experience in high-pressure matches.
Bengal is placed in Group A alongside Punjab, Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Bihar, and Rajasthan. The team begins its campaign against defending champions Punjab in Rajkot and will aim to secure a spot in the knockout stages. The final of the tournament is scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru.
