Bengaluru Stampede: In the aftermath of the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives outside Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, police officials have clarified that no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli as per News18.
The incident unfolded during the public celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden IPL title win. Following the chaos, a complaint was lodged by social activist HM Venkatesh at Cubbon Park Police Station, alleging that Kohli's actions and image contributed to the mass gathering.

"Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action," read the activist's complaint.
He further stated that the IPL itself is "not a sport but gambling that has contaminated the game of cricket."
Despite the severity of the complaint, Bengaluru Police have stated that the matter does not warrant a new FIR. "The complaint will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation under an already registered case," a senior official explained, noting that a detailed inquiry is still underway.
Authorities are currently under pressure following the incident, which occurred as thousands of fans swarmed the area around the stadium in response to the RCB's media announcement-later retracted-regarding victory celebrations. The situation quickly spiraled due to poor crowd control and inadequate preparation.
As the probe continues, officials are expected to look into the role of multiple parties involved in organizing the event, including those who handled logistics and permissions. Kohli and the RCB team remain uninvolved from a legal standpoint for now.
