Best Three Overseas Players in CSK's IPL 2024 squad: Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana not in list

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been one of the smartest brains on the auction tables in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The franchise have made some excellent buys, and roped in players not necessarily on the talent they possess, but on the hard work they can do, and sincerity they can show for the team's cause.

CSK have also bought several overseas icons of the game over the years, who have helped them in becoming the team they are today. It was Michael Hussey, and Matthew Hayden in the past, and it is Devon Conway in the present.

The MS Dhoni-led defending champions are once again filled with vastly talented overseas stars. Even though the likes of Conway and Matheesha Pathirana would miss the first few matches, we have shortlisted three overseas stars who can do the job for CSK this year.

CSK's Top 3 Overseas Stars in IPL 2024

Rachin Ravindra: The New Zealand youngster can do nothing wrong at the moment. The southpaw shot to fame after a stunning World Cup 2024 campaign in India. He finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer, scoring 578 runs in 10 matches at an average of 64.22, and a strike rate of 106.44.

The 24-year-old has been roped in by CSK for Rs 1.8 crore only. He recently found a place in the New Zealand Test squad as well, and ended up scoring 240 runs in his first innings of the first Test against South Africa. He smashed a fifty in each of the three Tests against Australia.

Rachin Ravindra has played a total of 56 T20 matches and scored 673 runs at an average of 16.41. He has picked 41 wickets at an average of 41 with his left-arm spin bowling. The numbers in both the departments are expected to improve rapidly under MS Dhoni in the IPL 2024.

Moeen Ali: The England veteran is a super handy cricketer and his stats proves every bit of it. A total of 319 T20 matches in which he has scored 6283 runs at an average of 24.73 and a strike rate of 140.68. The left-arm spinner has also picked 212 wickets at an average of 25.20.

The 36-year-old comes across as a prized possession for any team under subcontinent conditions. Although he could not do much the previous year, his association with CSK has been going strong since the last four years. He would aim to do something special for the five-time champions in IPL 2024.

Daryl Mitchell: The New Zealand all-rounder was bought for a whopping sum of Rs 14 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. He last played in the 2022 edition for Mumbai Indians. His shift from one five-time champion to the other, would be watched closely.

Daryl Mitchell was the fifth-highest run-scorer in the World Cup 2023. He scored 552 runs in 10 matches at an average of 69 and a strike rate of 111.06.

He smashed unbeaten 72 runs off just 44 balls in his last outing in the shortest format which came against Pakistan. The innings consisted of seven four and two sixes. The 32-year-old has scored 4251 runs at an average of 31.48 and a strike rate of 135.29 in 195 T20 games. He has also picked 76 wickets at an average of 23.65.

CSK parted ways with Ben Stokes and Mitchell comes as a best replacement for the England star. The powerful batter is expected to do the job for CSK in the middle overs.
