Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shami, Umesh Yadav. Can they be successful in SA? Find out!

After their dominant show in first Test against Sri Lanka, Indian pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shami and Umesh will be keenly watched during upcoming SA tour

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Co will be crucial for India in South Africa

Bengaluru, November 21: The Indian pacers performance at the Eden Gardens is the current talk of the town. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohamamed Shami and Umesh Yadav rattled Sri Lanka batsmen with high quality fast bowling in the first Test at Kolkata.

Their effort has reinforced the belief that India will be able to reply in the same token when they tour South Africa - first stop in a series of away tours next year - in January 2018.

But will they actually be able to reproduce the 'Eden Effort' in the Rainbow Nation? MyKhel reaches out to some subject-matter experts to trace their view.

Eric Simons (former India bowling coach): Being fast is only one criteria about fast bowling. Discipline is a must in South Africa. It's a wrong assumption that you just need to bowl at 140-150 kmph and you will get wicket here. You need to use short balls judiciously, surprise batsmen with them. You need to get good at other strategies too.

You need to do bit of goof-gang (as they call it here) - take the ball away from the off-stump to keep the batsmen guessing. Then get the one back in to the batsman, chances of an LBW or bowled is so high. Dale Steyn does this very effectively. Hope he returns soon.

Indian bowlers are talented and I enjoyed working with them during my time as the bowling coach. It's all about getting the length correct and implementing your strategies against specific batsman.

Bhuvneshwar and Shami can swing the ball both ways, and the former is especially nagging. Umesh is quicker of the three but he needs to maintain his line more consistently. But he has improved a lot.

Brett Schultz (former SA bowler): Test cricket is all about consistency and mental strength. South Africa have some fine batsmen like Hashim (Amla) and Quinton de Kock. You need to be patient against them as they will be playing in conditions familiar to them. If you can match your skill set with patience then you can induce errors from batsmen more regularly and it's a bonus if you can bowl a yard or two quicker here because of the bounce in South Africa.

Jimmy Cook (former SA opener): Indian bowlers are skilled enough to be successful in South Africa. Haven't we seen guys like Zaheer (Khan) and Sreesanth coming here and getting a few wickets? I am sure this younger lot too can court success if they hit the right length here. It's all about adapting. Equally, it will be fascinating to watch how Indian batsmen adapt to the SA conditions.

They are used to playing on the front foot at home and here they will have to be on the backfoot often because of the bounce. Hope it will be an interesting duel.
