Brisbane Heat lifted their first Big Bash League (BBL) title since 2013 following a 54-run victory over three-time champions Sydney Sixers in the BBL 13 Final on Wednesday (January 24) at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.
After Josh Brown fifty powered Brisbane Heat to 166, an all-round bowling effort led by Spencer Johnson (4 for 26 in 4 overs) helped bundle out the Sydney Sixers for 112 All Out to seal their second BBL title win.

Apart from Johnson, Xavier Bartlett (2 for 6), Mitchell Swepson (2 for 19), Michael Neser (1 for 15) and Paul Walter (1 for 24) were also among the wickets for the Heat, while Josh Philippe (23 off 22) and Moises Henriques (25 off 27) made notable contributions with the bat for Sixers.
Earlier, put into bat first, fresh from the joint second fastest hundred, Brown scored 53 off 38 balls before skipper Nathan McSweeney (33 off 32), Matt Renshaw (40 off 22) and Max Bryant (29 off 19) also played handy knocks to power Brisbane Heat to 166/8 in 20 overs.
Sean Abbott (4 for 32) was the pick of the bowlers for Sydney Sixers with Steve O’Keefe and Ben Dwarshuis claiming one wicket each as the only other wickets to fall in the Heat innings.
This was the first final meeting between the two teams in 13 seasons, and it was Brisbane Heat’s second successive final, having fallen short to Perth Scorchers in 2023. However, the Heat could replicate success from the 2012-13 season to lift their second BBL title
Sydney Sixers, meanwhile, missed out on reducing the deficit to one for most BBL title wins, a record which is still held by Perth Scorchers with five title triumphs. Here's the Big Bash League 2024 full list of award winners, prize money and stats:
