Big Cricket League 2026: Jesal Karia Stars With Bat and Ball as Gujarat Diamonds Crush Mumbai Marines by 44 Runs
Greater Noida, June 3: Jesal Karia produced a match-winning all-round performance as Gujarat Diamonds registered a convincing 44-run victory over Mumbai Marines in the Big Cricket League 2026 here at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex on Thursday (June 3).
The match, reduced to 15 overs per side due to a delayed start caused by a wet outfield, saw Gujarat Diamonds dominate in all three departments. Karia first smashed a quickfire 46 with the bat before returning figures of 3/21 to dismantle the Mumbai batting line-up.

After being asked to bat first, Gujarat Diamonds posted a competitive 141/5 from their 15 overs. Anuj Chaudhary and Karia laid the foundation with identical scores of 46, though their approaches differed significantly.
Anuj anchored the innings with a measured 46 off 33 deliveries, striking five fours and a six, while Karia injected momentum through a blistering 26-ball 46 that included five boundaries and two sixes. Their efforts ensured Gujarat remained in control despite the early dismissal of captain Upul Tharanga for 11.
Mumbai's bowlers struggled to stem the flow of runs. Yaseen Vallie picked up two wickets for 27 runs, while Nitish Hooda also claimed two scalps but leaked 41 runs in his three overs.
A late flourish from Gaurav Dhiman, who blasted an unbeaten 19 off just seven deliveries, pushed Gujarat beyond the 140-run mark and gave them a commanding total on a surface offering little margin for error.
Mumbai Marines needed a strong start in response but never recovered after losing wickets at regular intervals. Chris Mpofu struck early to remove Saket Sharma before Karia ripped through the middle order.
The all-rounder dismissed Naman Ojha, Ahmadnoor Pathan and Asghar Afghan in a decisive spell that reduced Mumbai to 33/4 inside five overs. From there, the chase never gained momentum.
Former New Zealand batter Ross Taylor attempted a rescue act with 23 off 16 balls, but his dismissal to Yash Chaudhary extinguished any hopes of a comeback. Chaudhary complemented Karia superbly with figures of 2/18, while Fasil K also chipped in with a wicket.
Anureet Singh (17*) and captain Sreesanth (16*) added some late runs, but Mumbai could only reach 97/8 in their allotted 15 overs.
Karia's all-round heroics proved the difference as Gujarat Diamonds opened their campaign with an emphatic victory, while Mumbai Marines were left searching for answers after a disappointing batting display.
The comprehensive victory gives Gujarat Diamonds early momentum in the competition, while Mumbai Marines will need a stronger batting performance in their next outing as they have lost two matches on the bounce.
