Bihar boy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made his Ranji Trophy debut against Mumbai on Friday (January 5) at the age of 12 years 284 days, making him the 4th youngest Indian player to make the first-class debut.
Suryavanshi's inclusion has raised eyebrows across the country, but the talented youngster will be hoping to make his mark for Bihar in Raji Trophy. Although he is making his debut at the age of 12 years, the Bihar player is not the youngest to grace the field.

The youngest player to make his debut in the Ranji Trophy is Alimuddin, who played at the age of 12 years 73 days. Alimuddin made his debut for Rajputana against Baroda in the 1942-43 Ranji season. He went on to play 25 Test matches for Pakistan after the partition, and has the distinction of picking up Vijay Hazare's wicket on his debut.
Vaibhav is also not even the youngest Bihar player to make his Ranji debut, as the record belongs to SK Bose, who made his debut for Bihar at the age of 12 years 76 days against Assam in the 1959-60 Ranji season.
In fact, Vaibhav is the only player to make his Ranji debut before the age of 13 in the 21st century. He is also one of the nine players in first-class history to make his debut before the age of 13.
