Botham hits out at Lankan cricket board

London, Oct 11 (UNI) Former England all-rounder Ian Botham has criticised the Sri Lankan cricket board for deciding to send a second string team for their upcoming tour next summer.

''If I was totally honest, I feel it is a total waste of time.

England have got the Ashes coming up and I think it is a bit of an insult to the English public to send a weakened side,'' quoted Botham as saying.

''It wasn't so long ago that England said they would send a weakened side to the ICC Champions Trophy and were threatened with a big fine,'' he added.

The former legend appealed to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to have a another look at the already overcrowded calendar facing the national squad.

''It seems maybe the authorities need to sit down and look at the congestion,'' Botham opined. ''Maybe losing a tournament or two wouldn't be a bad thing because you can saturate the market and kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

''I don't think England need to clutter up their itinerary unless Sri Lanka send a proper side.'' UNI XC AB AS1958
