BPL 2024: Why Mohammad Haris Was Denied NOC By PCB To Play In Bangladesh Premier League Season 10?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had granted No Objection Certificates (NOC) to it's centrally contracted as well as non-contracted players to participate in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the International League T20 (ILT20).

However, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris, who was part of the Chattogram Challengers squad in the ongoing BPL 2024, has returned back home after being denied an NOC by the PCB.

Haris was part of the match day squad in both Challengers' matches so far this season along with compatriot Mohammad Hasnain, but the Pakistani duo were not part of the playing 11.

Now, Haris has flown back home after getting more clarity on his NOC. Here is why the wicketkeeper-batter has returned home without featuring in the BPL:

Why Mohammad Haris is not playing in Bangladesh Premier League?

PCB's NOC allows the players to feature only in two foreign franchise league tournaments in a season that dates from June 2023 to July 2024, and Haris had already featured in two overseas leagues during that period. Hence, he was not allowed to play in BPL.

The 22-year-old had already played in two overseas T20 tournaments during the July 2023 to July 2024 period. He played in the Lanka Premier League and the Global T20 Canada in July-August last year.

Thanks to his stints at B-Love Kandy in LPL 2023 and Surrey Jaguars in GT20 Canada 2023, Haris has to miss the Bangladesh Premier League season 10 despite being named in one of the squads.

"Thank you, Chattogram team management and the BCB for taking care of me and giving me this opportunity," Haris was quoted as saying by Cricinfo after he had to fly back home.

"I also flew in on time to prepare myself to give some great games to my fans in Bangladesh. Unfortunately, my NOC was not issued. Hence, I will not play any games. I knew my team needed me. Hopefully, I will join them next year. I will definitely miss playing the BPL."

Chattogram Challengers, who beat Sylhet Strikers in their opening match before losing to Khulna Tigers in the second match, are yet to name a replacement for the wicketkeeper-batter.
