Brett Lee Reveals Why Gautam Gambhir's Big 2 Traits Will Definitely Help Team India

By MyKhel Staff

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee has backed Gautam Gambhir to do well as head coach, saying the former opener's two big traits "aggression and winning attitude" will definitely help Team India.

It was no secret, but Gambhir was finally named the new head coach of the Indian cricket team last week after former coach Rahul Dravid's tenure ended following the T20 World Cup triumph last month.

Before taking over as the head coach of Team India, Gambhir has served in mentor roles for Lucknow Super Giants and most recently Kolkata Knight Riders, whom he guided to the IPL 2024 crown earlier this year.

From a calm Dravid to an aggressive Gambhir, the change seems like huge, but many former cricketers, including Lee, believe Gambhir will do a great job as the head coach.

The 47-year-old Australian, who recently played in the World Championship of Legends, used Gambhir's success with KKR in the IPL earlier this year as a prime example and added that the former opener has always delivered when presented an opportinity.

"He's (Gautam Gambhir) done a terrific job every time he's had an opportunity. The Indian Premier League title with KKR is the best example. He's always been there, always at the top of his game," Lee told Times of India.

The former speedster, who has face Gambhir in his playing days, has said the former Indian batter alway finds a way to unite his team and also revealed how his aggression could benefit India.

"He finds a way to unite his players and graft his team together. He builds a solid structure. He has been a terrific player, and his aggression and winning attitude will help India," Lee added.

"He has shone internationally as a player. India is in safe hands with Gautam Gambhir as coach. Congratulations to Rahul for finishing on a high."

Gamhir is set to begin his tenure as the head of the Indian cricket team during the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka, where the team is scheduled to play 6 white ball games - 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. His first assignment will be to share his views on the selection of the squads for the tour.
