Can Pakistan Champions Win WCL 2025? What They Need To Do Against South Africa?

WCL 2025: The stage is set for a blockbuster finale in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 as Shoaib Malik's Pakistan Champions gear up to face AB de Villiers' South Africa Champions at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Saturday.

With both teams in red-hot form and stacked with legendary talent, fans can expect a gripping contest between two well-matched sides.

WCL 2025

Pakistan Champions reached the final under unusual circumstances after their highly anticipated semifinal against India Champions was cancelled, with India pulling out due to political tensions. On the other hand, South Africa Champions earned their spot the hard way, edging past Australia Champions by just one run in a thrilling last-ball finish.

Edgbaston's surface has traditionally favoured seamers, especially under overcast skies. Early movement is expected for fast bowlers, making the first few overs crucial. However, as the game progresses under lights, strokeplay becomes easier with the ball coming onto the bat nicely-something aggressive batters will look to capitalise on.

The presence of spinners like Saeed Ajmal and Imran Tahir also brings spin into play, particularly in the second innings where grip and turn might become more evident.

A first innings total of 170+ could be competitive, but chasing may prove advantageous if dew sets in later in the evening. That puts pressure on Pakistan's bowlers, who must deliver a clinical performance if they bat first.

Historically, Pakistan have faltered in finals when setting targets. In the 2024 final, they managed just 156 runs while batting first, which India chased down comfortably. Even at Edgbaston earlier this season, Pakistan posted 160 against England and managed to defend it narrowly, winning by 5 runs. They'll need their bowling unit firing on all cylinders, especially during the death overs.

Pakistan may carry a psychological edge into this clash, having beaten South Africa by 31 runs in the group stage. But South Africa's balanced squad and AB de Villiers' form make them formidable opponents. If Pakistan are to lift the WCL trophy for the first time, they must strike the right balance between cautious batting and incisive bowling-especially in crunch moments.
