On April 18, 2008, IPL began with a bang as New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum smashed 158 not out for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Since that first day in IPL, several records have been set. McCullum's highest individual score mark was erased 5 years later by Chris Gayle (RCB) with an epic 175 not out at the same venue against Pune Warriors (PW).
As they say, records are meant to be broken. In IPL 2017, fans will be hoping that previous marks are replaced with new ones.
Though some of the records might still stand at the end of the season this year, there are chances that players will etch their names by setting high standards on the field.
Here are 10 records that will be tough to beat this season. Can anyone better these?
1. Chris Gayle's highest individual score of 175 not out (66 balls, 13x4, 17x6). Gayle set the record in 2013
2. Most sixes in an innings - 17 by Gayle. He set the record during his monumental 175 not out knock
3. Highest team total - 263/5 in 20 overs by RCB Vs PW in Bengaluru (23 April, 2013). This was possible due to Gayle's 175 not out
4. Virat Kohli's record of most runs in a season - 973 (16 innings, 4 tons, 7 fifties). Kohli was in terrific form last year (2016) as he came close to aggregating 1,000 runs in a season
5. Kohli's incredible feat of scoring 4 centuries in a single season. He achieved it last season (2016) for RCB
6. Best bowling figures in an innings - 6/14 in 4 overs (4-0-14-6) by Pakistan paceman Sohail Tanvir. This is a long standing record. The left-armer had achieved this in the inaugural edition of the league in 2008, for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Jaipur
7. Highest partnership for any wicket - 229 runs for the 2nd wicket by Kohli and AB de Villiers for RCB. This came against Gujarat Lions (GL) in Bengaluru on 14 May, 2016. In that match, both Kohli (109 off 55, 5x4, 8x6) and De Villiers (129 not out off 51, 10x4, 12x6) hit centuries.
8. Most wickets in a single season - 32 scalps by Dwayne Bravo (CSK) in 2013
9. Most fours in an innings - 19. Joint record held by De Villiers and Paul Valthaty (Kings XI Punjab). De Villiers did it against Mumbai Indians in 2015 and Valthaty entered record books in 2011, against CSK
10. Fastest century, off 30 balls by Gayle. The Jamaican set records as he hammered Pune Warriors' bowlers in 2013 to remain unconquered on a mammoth 175 off just 66 deliveries
