Can Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Break Sachin Tendulkar’s Record With India T20I Debut? RR Star Shortlisted for Ireland Tour
Rajasthan Royals teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could be on the verge of scripting history, with the 15-year-old reportedly shortlisted for India's upcoming T20I series against Ireland in June.
According to reports, the young left-hander is among the players being considered for the Ireland tour scheduled on June 26 and 28 in Belfast, with selectors exploring the possibility of including emerging talent following the IPL 2026 season.

If selected and handed a debut, Sooryavanshi would become the youngest player to represent India, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record and setting a new benchmark in Indian cricket history.
Record-breaking debut could rewrite Indian cricket history
At approximately 15 years and three months, Sooryavanshi is poised to eclipse several age-based records if he makes his international debut.
The current record for India's youngest international debut belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16. A debut in Ireland would also see Sooryavanshi become the youngest Indian to feature in T20Is, overtaking existing youth milestones in the format.
Selectors are reportedly considering introducing him in a relatively less demanding overseas series, offering the youngster a controlled environment to transition into senior international cricket.
IPL heroics and U19 exploits fuel Vaibhav Sooryavanshi selection buzz
Sooryavanshi's rapid rise has been driven by a remarkable run of performances across formats.
The teenage batter grabbed attention during IPL campaigns with fearless strokeplay, including a stunning 35-ball century early in his professional career - one of the fastest centuries recorded by an Indian youngster in the league.
He has also been instrumental at youth level, delivering a historic 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, the highest individual score in a final, helping India secure the title.
His IPL 2026 form has further strengthened his case, with the Rajasthan Royals batter crossing 200 runs in the season at an exceptional strike rate, consistently providing explosive starts at the top of the order.
Backing from experts strengthens case for early debut
Calls for Sooryavanshi's inclusion have grown louder with several cricketing voices supporting his rapid progression into the senior setup.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal praised the youngster's performances, noting that players of his ability rarely emerge at such a young age.
"What an amazing batting display by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi this IPL 2026 season. This prodigy certainly deserves to debut for Team India as the youngest," Dhumal said.
Former cricketers and analysts have also pointed to his fearless approach against elite bowlers - including his ability to clear boundaries against established international pacers - as evidence of his readiness for bigger stages.
Cautious optimism surrounds Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
While excitement around Sooryavanshi's rise continues to build, selectors are also expected to carefully manage his workload and development.
A strong showing in Ireland could open further opportunities, including possible selection for upcoming white-ball tours later in the year.
For now, the spotlight remains firmly on the Rajasthan Royals prodigy - a 15-year-old whose extraordinary rise could soon rewrite Indian cricket's record books.
