Chad Bowes to Ben Duckett: Five Fastest Double Centurions in List A Cricket

New Zealand batsman Chad Bowes became the talk of the town after he etched his name in the record books for smashing the fastest double hundred in List A cricket.

Representing Canterbury against Otago at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Wednesday, October 23, the right-hander set a new benchmark by reaching the historic 200-run milestone in just 103 deliveries.

His breathtaking knock will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary innings in List A cricket without a shadow of a doubt. The 32-year-old South African-born New Zealand cricketer couldn't be any happier upon pitching in with an impeccable knock in his 100th List A game, in what was a knock to remember. He showcased an array of strokes, with a flurry of 27 fours and 7 hits over the fence.

Chad, who represented New Zealand in six ODIs and 11 T20Is, ended up scoring 205 off 110 balls. His stupendous knock helped Canterbury post a competitive total of 343 for nine after being put in to bat first. Chad's sterling batting effort came to an end during the 39th over when Matthew Bacon, who claimed a fifer for Otago, got rid of him.

Canterbury immensely benefited from Chad Bowes' services as they won the match by 240 runs after bundling the opposition out for 103 in 24.5 overs. Bowes amassed 253 runs in two games at an astonishing average of 253, with a strike rate of 159.11.

Fastest double centuries in List A Cricket

Bowes' explosive double century shattered a record that was once jointly held between Travis Head and Narayan Jagadeesan. Headset the original benchmark during the 2021-22 Marsh Cup while representing South Australia. He brought up his double century in 114 balls against Queensland and ended up on the winning side as South Australia won by 67 runs (DLS method).

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu's Jagadeesan matched the record in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh. His stellar knock came in a winning cause as Tamil Nadu won the match by a whopping margin of 435 runs.

Head also held the next-fastest double century, which came off 117 balls in another Marsh Cup game against Western Australia in 2015. South Australia aced the run-chase with 21 balls to spare.

The next fastest double centuries in List A cricket belong to England's Ben Duckett and India's Sanju Samson. Duckett smashed a 123-ball double hundred for the England Lions against Sri Lanka A in 2016 in Canterbury.

The Lions won the game by a huge margin of 140 runs. Kerala's Samson achieved his milestone in 125 balls against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2019. Samson's innings came in a winning cause as Kerala won by 104 runs.
