Bhopal, Oct 17: Police has busted a gang of chain snatchers with arrest of five of its members, including a former Madhya Pradesh's Under-19 cricket player, who were allegedly involved in over 75 crimes.
Acting on a tip-off, police yesterday arrested the gang leader and former cricket player Murtaza Ali (30), Shadab (23), Haider (19), Gufran (19) and Raza Ali (18), Jehangirabad area's City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Salim Khan said today.
The gang leader Murtaza was the member of MP Under-19 cricket team, the CSP said. Police also recovered four motorcycles and 10 gold chains from their possession.
The members admitted of committing 76 crimes in different parts of the country, especially in southern states. The gang used to target women while they were going to office and returning home, he said, adding they were being interrogated to find out whether they were involved in other crimes or not.
