Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan's campaign has taken a huge hit, with an injury to Fakhar Zaman adding to their woes following an opening defeat against New Zealand. The star southpaw, who played a crucial role in Men in Green's batting order, sustained the injury early in the match and has now been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.
Fakhar's emotional reaction after his dismissal against New Zealand has since gone viral, leaving fans heartbroken. The southpaw suffered the injury on just the second delivery of the match, forcing him off the field for most of New Zealand's innings. As a result, he couldn't open the batting and instead came in at No. 3 after Mohammad Rizwan's dismissal.

Speaking of the match, batting first the Kiwis put up a score of 320/5. Pakistan in reply started the game off slowly and eventually they were bundled out for 260 runs in front of their home crowd in Karachi.
Reports have confirmed that Fakhar Zaman has sustained an oblique injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the tournament. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Imam-ul-Haq as his replacement.
Zaman had recently made his way back into the national squad after being left out of the tours to South Africa and Australia. His exclusion at the time was reportedly linked to a tweet he posted in support of Babar Azam after the former captain was omitted from Pakistan's Test squad for the series against England.
With their qualification hopes now in jeopardy, Pakistan must regroup quickly ahead of a must-win encounter against arch-rivals India at the Dubai International Stadium. A defeat would significantly dent their chances of advancing, leaving them reliant on other results to stay in contention.
If Pakistan lose, they will need to defeat Bangladesh and rely on both India and Bangladesh to overcome a strong New Zealand side.
