Champions Trophy 2025: Highest Chase in ICC ODI Events & More - List of Records Broken in AUS vs ENG

By MyKhel Staff

Josh Inglis starred with an unbeaten century as Australia broke the highest successful run chase record in ICC ODI events during a 5-wicket victory over their Ashes rivals England in the Champions Trophy 2025 on Saturday (February 22) in Lahore.

In fact, several ICC Champions Trophy and ICC white-ball event records were broken in single day and it was only right that the oldest superpowers of the cricketing world got the right to shatter them in front of a packed Gaddafi Stadium.

Josh Inglis equals record for fastest century in Champions Trophy

Opting to bowl first, Australia reduced England to 43/2. But Ben Duckett and Joe Root (68 in 78 balls, with four boundaries) steadied the ship, helping England cross 200-run mark with a 158-run stand.

While wickets fell at other end, Duckett continued his onslaught to reach 165 in 143 balls, with 17 fours and three sixes as England scored 351/8 in their 50 overs. Duckett's knock is now the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy.

Highest Individual Score in Champions Trophy

With 165, Duckett surpassed New Zealand's Nathan Astle's 145* against USA in the Champions Trophy 2004 to become the highest individual score in the tournament's history. England's total of 351/8 also overtook NZ's 347/4 from that match to become the highest-ever total in the tournament history.

Highest Successful Chase in ICC ODI Events

In the run-chase of 352, Australia lost Travis Head and Steve Smith for single-digits, losing their two most reliable bats at the score of 27/2. However, a 95-run stand between Marnus Labuschagne (47 in 45 balls, with five fours) and Matt Short (63 in 66 balls, nine fours and six) took Australia beyond the 100-run mark

But the Aussies once again stumbled to 136/4 thanks to some brilliance of spin wizard Adil Rashid. Australia again started the fight with an explosive trio of middle-order batters. An aggressive Alex Carey (69 in 63 balls, with eight fours) shared a 146-run partnership with Inglis to take Australia within reach.

After Carey was dismissed, Inglis (120* in 86 balls, with eight fours and six sixes) and Maxwell (32* in 15 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) finished off the match with 15 balls to spare.

352 - was the highest-ever run-chase in any ICC ODI event, outdoing Pakistan's 345 against Sri Lanka at the 2023 Men's Cricket World Cup, and the highest-ever total in ICC Champions Trophy history, outdoing England by a run in this aspect.

This is also the second-highest ODI run chase by Australia and the highest ODI run chase against England. This is also the second highest ODI run-chase ever on Pakistan soil. 352 also became the highest total in Champions Trophy history.

Fastest Hundred in Champions Trophy

Inglis, the eventual player of the match, created another record as his 77-ball ton took him level with former Indian opener Virender Sehwag for the fastest century in the tournament history. Sehwag had achieved the feat in 2002 against England.
