New Zealand defeated South Africa by 50 runs in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final 2 on Wednesday (March 5) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where several records were shattered and some milestones were reached.
First up, New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra continued his brilliant run in International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI events, scoring his fifth century in the major white-ball tournaments and joining an elite company of players with multiple centuries in a single Champions Trophy edition.

With all his five tons in ODIs coming at ICC tournaments, he is above Kane Williamson (4 tons) to have the most tons for Kiwis at ICC ODI tournaments. Also, he joined legends like Chris Gayle, Sourav Ganguly, Saeed Anwar, Herschelle Gibbs, Upul Tharanga, Shane Watson, Shikhar Dhawan to have multiple centuries in a single CT edition.
The 164-run stand between Rachin and Williamson is the highest for New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, bettering 163 between Nathan Astle and Scott Styris against the USA at The Oval in 2004.
Later, Williamson etched his name in the history books by scripting a unique milestone against South Africa en route to becoming New Zealand's leading run-scorer in the Champions Trophy and the first player from his nation to cross the threshold of 19,000 international runs landmark.
It was Williamson's third consecutive hundred against South Africa in as many ODI innings, making him the first batter from New Zealand to achieve the feat and the first player ever to do so against Proteas.
Williamson and Ravindra's centuries powered New Zealand to the highest total in Champions Trophy history after the Kiwis set a score of 362/6 in their allotted 50 overs, surpassing the previous best of 356/5 set by Australia against England in the tournament earlier.
The top three highest team scores came in the ongoing edition with all those high-scoring innings coming at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Before these scores, New Zealand had held the record with 347/7 against USA in the 2004 edition.
The records did not stop there as South Africa also responded well in their run-chase but fell short of the total as David Miller's quickfire century went in vain. However, the big-hitting Miller broke the record for the fastest century in the Champions Trophy.
While wickets fell at the other end, Miller still managed to overthrow India's legendary opener Virender Sehwag's 23-year-old record for the fastest century (67 balls) in the tournament history. Australia's Josh Inglis had managed to equal Sehwag's record earlier in the tournament. Here is a look at the fastest centuries in CT:
