Champions Trophy 2025: ICC delegation arrives in Pakistan, reviews stadiums amid concerns of preparedness

A five-member delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) arrived in Pakistan to evaluate the nation's readiness to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

According to Pakistan daily, the Express Tribune team conducted a thorough inspection of Karachi's National Bank Stadium on Thursday to examine ongoing renovations and infrastructure development.

PCB officials, along with construction company representatives and Arshad Khan, General Manager of the National Bank Stadium, briefed the delegation on the progress. The ICC team focused on the five-story under-construction building, ensuring it aligns with tournament standards. They reviewed various sections, including the media centre, conference hall, and media gallery, carefully documenting their findings.

The delegation also examined facilities in the older building, including dressing rooms, the Chairman's Box, and the PCB Gallery. Their visit is part of an extensive effort to confirm that the stadium can meet the needs of teams, media, and spectators for the tournament.

Set to host three matches during the Champions Trophy, including the opening ceremony and the first match between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19, 2025, the National Bank Stadium is a focal point of Pakistan's preparations. Before the tournament, the venue will also host a tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and a yet-to-be-announced team from February 12-14.

This marks the fourth official ICC delegation visit to Pakistan ahead of the tournament. Earlier visits, led by ICC Security Head David Mascro and other senior officials, focused on security, operational readiness, and broadcasting arrangements. The ICC's evaluations are considered pivotal as Pakistan gears up to host one of cricket's most prestigious events. With less than two months remaining, the delegation's findings will play a critical role in ensuring Pakistan meets international standards for the Champions Trophy 2025.
