Champions Trophy 2025, IND vs NZ: New Zealand's Matt Henry made into the history books on Sunday by becoming the first bowler in the world to record a fifer against India in Champions Trophy history.
After electing to bowl first, the Kiwi bowlers seized the early momentum in the game. Kyle Jamieson struck first, dismissing Rohit Sharma for 15, while Matt Henry made a significant impact by removing Shubman Gill (2) and Virat Kohli (11) cheaply, leaving India struggling at 30-3.

Shreyas Iyer led the recovery effort with a determined 79, matching Brian Lara's record for the highest score at No. 4 in the tournament. He found valuable support from Axar Patel, who contributed 42, and Hardik Pandya, who added a run-a-ball 45.
However, Henry had the final say, taking three more wickets to wrap up India's innings at 249-9. His remarkable figures of 5-42 rank as the second-best by a New Zealand bowler in Champions Trophy history and the 10th best overall. The all-time record remains with Sri Lanka's Farveez Maharoof, who took 6-14 against the West Indies in 2006. Notably, Henry's spell also made him the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul against India in the tournament. The previous best figures against India belonged to Pakistan's Naved-ul-Hasan, who took 4-25 in 2004.
Henry has now secured four or more wickets in an innings against India on three occasions-more than any other New Zealand bowler. The likes of Andre Adams, Trent Boult, Jacob Oram, and Tim Southee have each managed the feat twice.
Beyond Henry's brilliance, only two bowlers have ever taken a six-wicket haul in a Champions Trophy match-Maharoof and Australia's Josh Hazlewood, the latter achieving the feat against New Zealand in the 2017 edition.
Speaking of the match, the Indians managed to get 249 runs on the board. The winner of this match will take pole position in the group and in that case, the victor will face South Africa in the semis.
