Champions Trophy 2025: England had the slightest of ideas that they were in for a shocker as Afghanistan pulled off yet another upset in an ICC tournament, this time knocking the Jos Buttler-led side out of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 on Wednesday in Lahore.

The Afghans pulled off a thrilling 8-run victory in a match that went to the final over of the innings and with his huge win, now they are pretty much in contention for a semi-final spot.

Champions Trophy 2025

England have now become the third team after Pakistan and Bangladesh to bow out and the loss has sent the entire social media into frenzy. Here's a look at some of the reactions.

''England deserves what is being dished out to them. @englandcricket have been defeated by Afghanistan twice in 50 over cricket and yet they shamelessly lament over a 'supposed' advantage that the Indian team has. England should pack its bags and play 100!!'', a fan wrote on X.

''England must be thinking now boycotting playing against Afghanistan would have been better than getting thrashed by them & kicked out of the tournament'', another fan expressed.

''Afghanistan absolutely bamboozled Bazball! What a ripper of a game - England's 'fearless' cricket turned into 'clueless' cricket in no time! Wonder what excuse @MichaelVaughan will pull out this time bad luck, bad pitch, or maybe Afghanistan just played better?'', an user took a dig at ex England captain Michael Vaughan.

Speaking of the match, Afghanistan batting first, put up a good total of 325-7, thanks to a brilliant 146-ball 177 from Ibrahim Zadran and he was supported with valuable contributions from Shahidi (40), Azmatullah (41) and Nabi (40). Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers for England as he finished with figures 10-64-3.

In the run-chase, England got off to a shaky start, but it was Joe Root, who's 111-ball 120 kept the Three Lions in hunt but despite some decent contributions from Jos Buttler (38) and Jamie Overton (32), they fell short by 8 runs and were bundled out for 317 runs.

Azmatullah Omarzai turned out to be the best bowler of the match as he picked up a fifer for 58 runs.
