Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammed Shami To Return, No Sanju Samson; India Squad To Be Announced By 10th Jan- Report

The Indian cricket team will shift its attention to the shorter formats as the ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to commence on February 19. Prior to the marquee event, India are set to host England for a series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs.

The home series will kick off on January 22, serving as vital preparation for the upcoming tournament.

As per reports, the Rohit Sharma-led India squad for the Champions Trophy will be announced on Jan 9 or 10 and star pacer Mohammed Shami will be making his much awaited international comeback after a gap of 1.5 years.

Star wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson will be missing out from the squad and either Nitish Reddy or Axar Patel will make it to the team.

This particular squad will be as same as the England ODI series as well. Jasprit Bumrah, who didn't bowl in the final session of the 5th BGT Test is likely to be rested so that he can nurse his back spasm and get fit in time for the Champions Trophy.

On expected lines, Shreyas Iyer will be making his way to the squad.

After a great T20 World Cup campaign midway through 2024, India had a disastrous Border-Gavaskar Trophy and as a result, they miss out on a glorious chance to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

Champions Trophy will be making it's return after a period of 7 years and this time, India would be looking to get their hands on the trophy after being deprived in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan in 2017. The Men in Blue last won the trophy way back in 2013.
