Glenn Phillips left everyone shell-shocked inside the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday, 19th February after his one-handed stunning catch sent Mohammad Rizwan packing during the opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025 between Pakistan and New Zealand.

The incident happened in the last ball of the 10th over of the Pakistan innings. Fielding at point, he reacted instantly to a fierce cut shot from Mohammad Rizwan, who had gone hard at a short and wide delivery from William O'Rourke. The ball was traveling at high speed towards the boundary, but Phillips showed incredible athleticism and reflexes.

Here's a look at the unbelievable catch:-

Diving to his left, he stretched out his left hand behind his body and miraculously plucked the ball out of thin air. The leap was extraordinary, showcasing the power in his legs as he launched himself into the air. The sheer speed of the shot made the catch even more unbelievable. Rizwan, aiming to hammer it to the fence, could only watch in disbelief as Phillips turned what seemed like a certain boundary into an extraordinary dismissal. This moment will go down as one of the finest catches ever taken in cricket history for sure.

Earlier in the match, commentator Simon Doull revealed that Phillips attributes his powerful hitting to his intense fitness routine, which includes a jaw-dropping 800 push-ups daily. This dedication enhances his performance and sets a high standard for physical preparation in cricket.

Earlier, Tom Latham starred with a brilliant century as New Zealand posted a commanding 320/5 against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener in Karachi. Arriving at 73/3, Latham anchored the innings with a composed knock, adding 118 runs with centurion Will Young (107) and a 75-run stand with Glenn Phillips.

Latham also reached 2,000 ODI runs in away conditions, becoming the fifth Kiwi to achieve the feat. Pakistan, opting to bowl, lost Fakhar Zaman early to injury and saw wickets from Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Abrar Ahmed, but struggled to contain the middle order. Pakistan now face a stiff 321-run chase at home.

At the time of writing this article, Pakistan are currently reeling at 65/2 after 19 overs of play with Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman at the crease, who is battling with injury.
