The newly-renovated National Bank Stadium in Karachi is all set to be unveiled in a grand opening ceremony tonight -- February 11, just days before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 kicks off.
The same venue will host the opening match of the tournament with home team Pakistan facing New Zealand in a Group A match. Speaking of the opening ceremony, the event, hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), promises a dazzling spectacle featuring live performances, fireworks, and an immersive light show.

Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari will be the chief guest for the occasion, as the PCB throws open the stadium gates for the public with free entry. The ceremony comes at a crucial moment for Pakistan cricket, as the board faced significant criticism over delays in stadium renovations, with doubts looming over whether venues would be ready in time for the prestigious tournament.
However, with the completion of the Karachi stadium's transformation, the PCB aims to silence critics and showcase world-class infrastructure ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. The renovation, which began on September 28, 2024, saw the complete demolition and reconstruction of the pavilion building, along with the installation of brand-new seating across all enclosures.
Enhancements also include modern LED lighting, state-of-the-art scoreboard screens, upgraded hospitality boxes, and improved viewing angles for spectators, ensuring a top-tier experience for both players and fans.
The star-studded night will feature performances by renowned Pakistani singers Ali Zafar, Shafqat Amanat Ali, and Sahir Ali Bagga, who are set to captivate the audience with their electrifying sets. The celebrations will culminate in a mesmerizing fireworks display, illuminating Karachi's skyline as Pakistan officially marks the readiness of its premier cricketing venue.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi credited the relentless efforts of construction teams, engineers, and PCB staff for completing the extensive renovations in just 120 days. He emphasized that the revamped stadium meets international standards, ensuring an unparalleled experience for spectators and teams during the Champions Trophy.
This inauguration follows the recent refurbishment of Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a similar ceremony last week. It's worth mentioning that there won't be any opening ceremony on the opening day of the Champions Trophy 2025 over logistical issues.
