Pakistan's opening batter Fakhar Zaman, has been officially ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a chest muscle injury sustained during the opening match against New Zealand on February 19.
The injury occurred just two balls into the game when Zaman dived to prevent a boundary, leading to immediate discomfort and his subsequent departure from the field. Despite returning to bat at the unfamiliar number four position, he managed only 24 runs off 41 deliveries, visibly struggling throughout his innings.

Amid this, PCB confirmed on Thursday that the southpaw has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy. The apex body of Pakistan cricket also confirmed his replacement for the remainder of the tournament.
In light of Zaman's unavailability, the PCB has announced that Imam-ul-Haq will replace him in the squad. Imam, a seasoned opener, brings experience and stability to the top order, which will be crucial as Pakistan prepares for their next match against arch-rivals India on February 23.
Imam played a decent knock against South Africa in the CT 2025 warm-up match a few days ago. The southpaw scored 98 runs in just 94 deliveries and his familiarity with the opening spot is a massive reason behind the inclusion.
