Champions Trophy 2025: England on Saturday (November 11) became the seventh team to book their berth for the tournament scheduled to take place in Pakistan with their third win in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.
The Champions Trophy has seen eight teams compete for the trophy since 2009 based on the ICC ODI Championship rankings, but the 2025 edition will see the top 8 teams of ICC World Cup 2023 points table do battle, as per the new ICC rules.

The four semi-finalists - India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand were joined by Pakistan and Afghanistan before England also booked their spot as the seventh ranked side. Here is a look at the teams qualified for the Champions Trophy tournament:
| Team | How They Qualified |
| Pakistan | Hosts & 5th Ranked Team |
| India | 1st Ranked Team |
| South Africa | 2nd Ranked Team |
| Australia | 3rd Ranked Team |
| New Zealand | 4th Ranked Team |

| England | 7th Ranked Team |
| Bangladesh | 8th Ranked Team |
With three teams locked on four points in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 points table heading into the final round-robin match, here is a look at who had the best chance to qualify as the eighth team:
Bangladesh sat in the eighth place with four points and a net run rate of -1.087 followed by Sri Lanka, who are in ninth position, also with four points and a NRR of -1.419.
But both teams had already played their nine round robin matches in the World Cup 2023, leaving only one other team - Netherlands - with a chance to topple them and take the eighth spot.
However, the Dutch team suffered a massive loss to high-flying unbeaten hosts India in their final World Cup 2023 round-robin match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to concede the eighth spot.
Netherlands, who also finished on four poinst following upset wins over South Africa and Bangladesh, could have gone to six points with another stunning win over the tournament favourites.
They could had also toppled Bangladesh if rain had washed out play, but the weather at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru seemed pleasant with no chance of rain. So, following their loss to India, the Dutch finished at the foot of the table.
So, Bangladesh, who sat in pole position to take the final Champions Trophy spot despite their defeat to Australia in their last round-robin match due to their superior net run rate compared to Sri Lanka and Netherlands, qualified as the eighth placed team.
Bangladesh had registered wins over Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in the round robin stage, but suffered defeats to the other seven teams in the 50-over show-piece tournament.
Afghanistan will be playing in the tournament for the first time, while Bangladesh will make their sixth appearance with their best-ever finish coming in the last edition, having reached the semi-final in which they lost to India in 2017.
Netherlands, on the other hand, were looking to qualify for ther second Champions Trophy, having previously finished twelfth in a 12-team tournament in 2004. However, they missed out on that opportunity.
