IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma Believes Pressure Equal on Both Teams Ahead of Champions Trophy Semifinal

India Captain Rohit Sharma downplayed any notion of increased pressure on India against Australia in the Champions Trophy semifinal on Tuesday (March 4).

He believes both teams face equal pressure to win. India has not defeated Australia in ICC knockout matches since the 2011 World Cup quarterfinal.

Rohit acknowledged Australia's strength as an opponent. "Look, they are a great opposition to play against. All we had to do was what we have been thinking about the last three games, and we have to approach that game in a similar fashion. We understand the opposition and how they play and stuff like that," he stated during a pre-match press conference.

Intense Competition Expected

The semifinal, scheduled for Tuesday, promises intense competition, according to Rohit. He anticipates some tense moments during the match but noted that such situations are common in today's game.

"We will expect some nervy times as well in the middle. But that is how the game is being played these days. And you are talking about the semifinal. Obviously, the pressure will be on both teams to win that game," he remarked.

Despite missing key players like Pat Cummins, Australia is expected to present a formidable challenge. Rohit expressed confidence in his team's ability to counter Australia's efforts. He emphasized focusing on their strengths as a team and individual units, both in batting and bowling.

Focus on Team Strategy

Rohit stressed the importance of maintaining focus on their strategies and executing them effectively. "But I think the more and more we focus on what we need to do as a group, as a player, as a batting unit, as a bowling unit, that helps us a lot," he explained.

He acknowledged Australia's historical prowess but remained optimistic about India's chances if they concentrate on their game plan. "Australia has been such a great team over the years. So, we will expect some fight back," he added.

Rohit reiterated the need for India to stay focused on their tasks and execute them correctly. By doing so, he believes positive results will follow naturally. "So, I think it is important for us to just keep focusing on what we need to do, keep doing our things and keep doing those things right. And then the result will come if we keep doing the things that we are supposed to," he concluded.
