India and Australia will face off in the 1st match of the series at the WACA Ground in Perth tomorrow (January 12). And Kohli can surpass De Villiers as the quickest to 7,000 ODI runs list.

De Villiers holds the record for being the fastest to score 7,000 ODIs runs - in 166 innings. So far, Kohli has accumulated 6,831 runs in 158 innings (166 matches). The Proteas right-hander claimed the record in November 2014 against Australia, in Perth.

The 27-year-old Kohli needs 169 runs more to complete 7,000. Even if he gets to bat in all 5 ODIs and reaches the milestone in the last game, he will topple De Villiers. He has 7 more innings to break the South African's mark.

Having emerged as one of the best batsmen in the world, it will not be a surprise if Kohli overtakes his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team-mate De Villiers, in Australia.
