Chandigarh in doldrums in Punjab inter district cricket final
Chandigarh, Apr 28 (UNI) Medium pacer Mehjot Singh bowled a tight length as Patiala restricted Chandigarh to 194 all out on the first day of the three-day final in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Championship for Sushil Bali Trophy played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali today.
In a lively spell of 14 overs, Mehjot Singh dismissed five Chandigarh players for 27 runs on the green strip.
Chandigarh won the toss and elected to bat. Their skipper Manan Vohra, who had earlier got a double hundred against Amritsar and a century against Mohali, was first to depart without troubling the scorer. he was caught by wicketkeeper Vinay of the bowling of left arm medium pacer Pardeep Kumar.
The Chandigarh batsmen were all at sea against the medium pace bowling of Mehjot Singh who rocked the Chandigarh innings by reducing them to 51 for 6 before they recovered to end at 194 in 87 overs.
The Chandigarh innings was propped up by a seventh wicket stand of 77 runs between Subham Mahajan (87, 14x4s) and Hitesh Bhutani 31 (3x4s).
At the close of play Patiala were 21 for one in 13 overs.
