New Delhi, July 29: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially parted ways with their head coach Chandrakant Pandit after a three-year stint marked by both highs and lows.
The development comes after the defending champions failed to make a mark in IPL 2025. The team management, as well as the coaching staff, came under heavy fire after the team's forgettable run.

Pandit, a respected former India wicketkeeper-batter and domestic coaching stalwart, was appointed in August 2022 following Brendon McCullum’s departure to take over the reins of England's Test team. Under Pandit's guidance, KKR witnessed a resurgence and went on to win the 2024 IPL title, their first since 2014, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the franchise confirmed the development: "Mr. Chandrakant Pandit has decided to explore new opportunities and will not continue as Head Coach of Kolkata Knight Riders. We are thankful for his invaluable contributions - including leading KKR to the Tata IPL Championship in 2024 and helping build a strong, resilient squad. His leadership and discipline have left a lasting impact on the team. We wish him all the very best for the future."
In his three-season stint, Pandit oversaw 42 matches, out of which KKR won 22, lost 18, and two games ended without a result. Despite the euphoric high of the 2024 IPL win, KKR endured a tough campaign in IPL 2025, finishing eighth, with 5 wins from 14 matches.
The franchise is yet to name a successor for the 2026 season. Speculations are likely to emerge in the coming weeks, with several high-profile names in the coaching circuit available. With a strong core and fan expectations high after their recent title, the next appointment will be crucial in maintaining KKR’s momentum and legacy.
Chandrakant Pandit brought structure, strategy, and accountability to KKR’s setup. Known for his no-nonsense approach in domestic cricket, his methods bore fruit with the 2024 title, a crowning achievement of his coaching journey. His departure now marks the end of a significant chapter in KKR’s history.
