CHE vs RR Dream11 prediction, IPL 2023: Fantasy Suggestions, Captain and Vice Captain, Impact Sub Options

By Aditya K Halder

CHE vs RR Dream11 prediction: Chennai Super Kings will be playing host to Rajasthan Royals in match 17 of the IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday (March 12). MS Dhoni-led CSK will be aiming for a streak as they won their last two games while Sanju Samson's RR are on winning momentum too.

The Royals, who are playing their fourth match of the season, defeated Delhi Capitals by a big margin last weekend to push themselves second on the table with four points. CSK are just separated by net run rate as they defeated Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants for back-to-back wins.

The yellow-clad outfit also has a 15-11 head-to-head advantage over the rivals, against whom they lost their inaugural IPL final in 2008. RR have been a dominant force in the recent past with four wins in the last five encounters.

CHE vs RR injury update

CHE injury update Chennai Super Kings had to play the last match without Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali as the duo was injured before the game. Stokes, who earlier was unable to bowl due to a knee injury, hurt his toe while training and is uncertain for the game.

The major injury concern, however, is pacer Deepak Chahar as the side's frontline pacer suffered a hamstring injury and could be out of the game for the next few games. CSK would have preferred Mukesh Choudhary's return in his absence but there's no update on his situation either.

CHE key players Ajinkya Rahane made his IPL comeback against MI as the batter shot a 19-ball half-century. The veteran Indian batter, who is reported to be back in contention for the Test side, was a last-minute replacement in the playing 11 for Stokes but now is certainly the first choice.

Ruturaj Gaikwad chases the orange cap with three good knocks on the trot while his opening partner Devon Conway flopped in two of his three knocks but the Kiwi batter has been in good form. Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu continued to play cameos down the order while MS Dhoni sticks to his role of last-over finisher.

Moeen is available for the game and is unavoidable after taking four wickets at the venue against LSG. South African pacer Dwaine Pretorious is likely to make a place for him, which also paves for Rajvardhan Hangarkar's return to the line-up. The young pacer was earlier dropped from the playing 11 for conceding extras.

Ravindra Jadeja also bowled an impressive 3/20 in the last game and could come handy, along with Mitchell Santner on Chepauk's surface. The main concern lies with the pacer with Chahar and Stokes uncertain as Tushar Deshpande and Sisanda Magala will have to carry the brunt of expectations. Deshpande, who took the impressive scalp of Rohit Sharma at Wankhede, will be the lead pacer as Magala is just a match old in IPL.

RR injury update There's no injury reported from the Rajasthan Royals camp on the eve of the match.

Key players RR top order will be in the spotlight with Yashashvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler hitting top gear. Sanju Samson has fired runs at No. 3 despite the duck in the last game. Down the order, Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel are expected to provide fireworks while Riyan Parag has failed to deliver so far. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jason Holder provide further depth but their bowling remains of prominent importance.

Ashwin took two wickets in the last game and will be a homecoming for him at the Chepauk but it's Yuzvendra Chahal, who is the side's strike bowler with eight wickets in three games. Trent Boult has been in the run for Purple Cap as well with five wickets so far. Sandeep Sharma justified his selection after the IPL auction snub as he bowled an economical 1/20 on return.
