Four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni got close to going level for most title wins as they booked their spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Final.
CSK, who finished second on the points table, defeated table-topping defending champions Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier of the ongoing season on Tuesday (May 23) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The MS Dhoni-led side have continued their dominance in the world's biggest T20 league, having reached the knockout stage or playoffs in 12 of their 14 seasons so far. They are also the only team to reach the summit clash 10 times.
CSK finished second the table even this season to progress to the next round. They will hope the season ends in with silverware on potentially the last season as a player for their veteran skipper MS Dhoni, who has led them to four titles so far.
The Super Kings have so far qualified for the playoffs stages the most times and also the final of the tournament most, having reached the final of IPL at least 10 times. The Yellow brigade led by Dhoni have won 4 finals and lost 5 summit clashes.
In 2023, CSK bounced back from a poor outing during last season, registering 8 wins and one no result in 14 matches for 17 points. The team has performed brilliantly despite an inexperienced bowling attack.
Before they face the winner of Qualifier 2 in the IPL 2023 Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 28), let's take a look at CSK's playoff record, stats and results.
