Chennai Super Kings unveil official fan club

Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) The runners up in the first edition of BCCI's Indian Premier League (IPL), Super Kings today launched their exlcusive fan club 'Kings Club' along with a logo on the lines of such clubs in English football league.

The idea is to build on the already immense popularity of the team, which had lost the final of the IPL championship to Australian icon leg spinner Shane Warne led Rajasthan Royals early this year, owner of the Chennai Super Kings team, led by India captain M S Dhoni, India Cements Executive President T S Raghupathy said here today.

Chairman of the BCCI Selection Committee K Srikkanth, who is also the brand ambassador for Chennai Super KI ngs, who spoke on the occasion said he had been travelling throughout with the team last year and undoubtedly it was the most popular team in IPL.

''The support drummed up for the Super Kings was tremendous,'' Srikkanth averred excitedly and added that all the matches, in which the team figured at various centres were full.

''The team is led by none other than the Super King of Indian cricket M S Dhoni,'' Srikkant also observed.

''And as the Ambassador of Chennai Super Kings, I have also gained a lot of equity and stature, may be much more than what I earned as former India captain,'' he said.

The former captain said as per the ruled of IPL, Super Kings would have four overseas players in the playing XI.'' We have signed many but only four can play in a game,'' he explained while answering to a question.

Srikkanth also explained the benefits those who enroll as members of the club would get like chance to watch favourite Super Kings in action during net practice from close quarers, interact with them, upto 10 per cent rebate on tickets for home matches, official autography sessions with players and priority to purchase tickets a few days before the general sales.

He expressed the confidence that the team would be able to win the title in the Champions League and that the team members were fully geared up for it as they are already playing lot of official tournaments for respective states or for Tests and ODis for their national teams.

Raghupathy however, said the fans club will help foster a relationship with the supporters of the team. ''It would give them a feeling of being part of a family,'' he observed.

''We hope that the Super Kings will have the full team including the likes of Mathew Hayden and Hussey and win the Champions League title,'' he asserted.

Aircel Cellular Limited, the sponsor's Operations Director- South K V P Baskar said Aircel had become a truly national brand after sponsoring Chennai Superkings team in IPL. ''We will continue the relationship,'' he added.

Drummber Sivamani, the most popular performer during IPL matches in the Super Kings entertainment segment, announced that he and his team have coined an appropriate theme song for the team for the forthcoming Champions League.
