Chicago Patriots Stage Comeback With Victory in USPL's Second Game

In a remarkable comeback, the Chicago Patriots, owned by World of Krida, secured a victory in their second game of the debut season in the United States Premier League (USPL). After a setback in their first match against Phillies United, the Patriots redeemed themselves against California Golden Eagles.

The ongoing USPL, endorsed by ICC and USA Cricket, commenced on November 13, 2023, at Broward County Stadium in Florida, aiming to boost cricket at the grassroots level in the United States and establish it as a mainstream sport.

In their second match, the Patriots, batting first, overcame early setbacks to post a competitive 164/9 in 20 overs against the Golden Eagles. Vice-captain Nitish Kumar contributed 31, while Jahmar Hamilton and Joshua Tromp's partnership of 94 runs bolstered the score. In response, the Golden Eagles struggled, losing wickets in the powerplay. Rain interrupted the match in the 12th over, leading to the Patriots winning by 34 runs through the DLS method.

The USPL features a round-robin format, with franchises like Phillies United, Maryland Mavericks, Carolina Eagles, New York Cowboys, NJ Titans, and California Golden Eagles in addition to the Chicago Patriots. The Broward County Stadium in Florida will host all 24 matches, including semi-finals on November 20, 2023, and the final on November 21, 2023.

Led by former Sri Lankan international cricketer Angelo Perera, the Chicago Patriots boast a mix of young and experienced talent, including Shehan Jayasuriya, Ali Sheikh, Akhilesh Bodugum, Adithya Ganesh, Nitish R Kumar, and Rayyankhan Pathan.

Saurabh Bandekar, head coach of the Chicago Patriots and a former U19 Indian Cricket Team player, expressed excitement about participating in the USPL and emphasized the team's dedication to spreading the sport in the USA.

Angelo Perera, captain of the Chicago Patriots, expressed enthusiasm for the team's debut in the USPL and thanked World of Krida for their support. World of Krida, known for its presence in various sporting leagues, including badminton, handball, and table tennis, has expanded into cricket with the ownership of the Chicago Patriots in the USPL.

Parina Parekh, CEO of World of Krida, conveyed pride in adding a cricket franchise to their portfolio and wished the Chicago Patriots success in their inaugural USPL season. This move marks World of Krida's first foray into cricket ownership, alongside their existing ownership of franchises in various other sports leagues worldwide.
