Chopra's century leads Delhi to 9-wicket win over Jand K

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) An 89-ball 101 by opener Akash Chopra led Delhi to a nine-wicket win over Jammu and Kashmir in the third Ranji one day (North Zone) match played at Feroz Shah Kotla here today.

Chopra's innings came after the Delhi bowlers restricted J and K for a meagre 167 for nine and the hosts quickly reached their target in only 27.5 overs.

Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, J and K failed to negotiate the Delhi bowlers as the hosts held a tight grip over visitors.

For J and K, Iandev Singh scored a gritty 90 off 123 balls to provide his bowlers with something to bowl at. He held one end as his other teammates seemed in a little bit of hurry.

The visiitors were off to a poor start as they lost their first four wickets at the score of 30 in the 10th over.

However, Delhi openers did not give J and K bowlers any chance to make an impact in the match. Akash Chopra and Shikhar Dhawan were involved in a 100-run partnership for the opening wicket before Dhawan (31) was out trapped leg before the wicket to Khajuria.

Later, captain Mithun Manhas (30) joined Chopra in an unbeaten stand of 70 runs to score off the required runs.

For hosts, Amit Bhandari, Sumit Narwal and Manan Sharma claimed two wickets each while Parwinder Awana and C Nanda bagged one wicket each.

Scoreboard in brief: J and K innings (Iandev Singh 90 not out, A Bhandari 2/27, S Narwal 2/37) Delhi innings (Akash Chopra 101 not out, S Dhawan 31, M Manhas 30 not out, S Khajuria 1/29) UNI RAR RKM KP2259
